The Challenge:

From the very outset, you will be able to make full use of your love for languages in a variety of exciting translation projects ranging from marketing campaigns and job descriptions to legal texts, blog articles, and press releases.
You will share your passion for learning and determination to leave your mark to enhance the clarity and understandability of Avira products and solutions.

To support the team, we are looking for a highly organized and reliable employee with a strong eye for detail and the ability to get to grips quickly with new technical subjects.

The Team:

We are a small, multinational and very responsive team of linguists and technical writers. As a Service Team, we act as an internal agency with all of Avira as our client. We work primarily in American English as the source language, which is then translated into as many as 11 languages mainly by agencies and freelancers.

What you will do:

As a Translation and Terminology Manager, you have the know-how to perform the full range of translation tasks. These include:

  • Preparing and correcting source texts and translations
  • Coordinating and managing multilingual translation projects
  • Leveraging previous experience in conducting terminology research
  • Reviewing, researching, and completing our terminology database
  • Checking software and documentation (including installation guides and tooltips) to ensure they are free from errors and are grammatically correct
  • Performing localization tests and documenting errors and quality issues
You will also work closely with many other internal customers (UX writers, localization engineers, campaign managers as well as copywriters, developers, product managers, and Customer Service) as well as external translators and language service providers.

You will need to match the following points to fulfill your responsibilities:
  • Native or near-native speaker of English
  • Qualification in technical writing/communication, translation studies, terminology studies, or computer linguistics
  • Strong language skills in at least one of the following foreign languages: French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese, or Chinese
An additional plus:
  • Experience of CAT (computer-aided translation) tools as well as terminology and translation memory databases (such as Across Language Server)
  • Programming knowledge
  • Knowledge of SEO tools and copywriting
