Software Development Manager - Core Protection Platform

The Challenge

Besides our consumer products you might already know, Avira is also licensing its core malware detection capabilities to OEM vendors who want to benefit from one of the most experienced vendors in the field. As Software Development Manager you are responsible for a team of highly skilled C/C++/Python developers working on the next version of our OEM flagship product. The developed software has to be highly flexible and modular to serve very diverse integration scenarios, be it on a router to scan web traffic, on an endpoint or mobile device to prevent infections or in the backend of a big ISP to scan mail traffic – there are endless scenarios.

You will work together with our OEM sales engineers to solve difficult integration scenarios; in some cases, you even work closely together with the technical experts of our OEM customers.

You are accountable for managing and coordinating resources and processes to deliver software releases. You participate in defining the strategy for the development team by driving initiatives towards the Avira vision. The systems you are responsible for, deliver value to millions of our and our customers user base on a daily basis.

The team

You will be heading one of four teams reporting to the Director Protection Platform & Threat Research. Your team consists of ~7 highly skilled software developers working in an agile environment using state of the art technology to release high quality software in quick cycles. The team is in Bucharest, Romania with an extension of currently 3 developers in Germany to support our current initiative.

What you will do:

  • Manage a team of ~7 highly skilled software developers
  • Collaborate with the Product Management in defining the Product Vision
  • Work closely with other technical teams and stakeholders to:
    • understand the requirements for our products and technologies
    • plan and execute projects
    • ensure that the development teams have appropriate product and technical specifications, direction, and resources
    • deliver products effectively by establishing realistic estimates for timelines
    • ensure that projects remain on target to meet deadlines
    • manage the team's backlog
  • Provide a software development plan that meets the future needs of our clients, partners and markets.
  • Evolve the existing software system applications and architecture in various areas as needed
  • Coordinate releases and sprint planning
  • Guide teams to solve technical challenges
  • Provide leadership and guidance to coach, motivate, and lead team members to their optimum performance levels and career development
